The Vegan Society

Made responsibly for a world interconnected with nature, we are pleased to mark World Vegan Month with news of Wildsmith’s registration with The Vegan Society.

Globally recognised The Vegan Trademark is the authentic international vegan standard, managed by The Vegan Society and is granted on an individual product basis, and renewed annually.

Certified products must meet the highest vegan standards across a number of fields including no animal ingredients or by-products in the manufacturing of a product, cross-contamination procedures are in place throughout the supply chain to ensure it is minimised and that at no point in the development or manufacture of a product can it or its ingredients have involved testing of any sort on animals.

Today we are delighted to share that the following Wildsmith products have successfully been certified with The Vegan Trademark, with applications pending across the Wildsmith range; Hand and Body Wash, Hand and Body Lotion, Active Super Eye Serum, Active Super Oil, Dual Action Exfoliating Treatment, Time-Release Pre-Serum-Drops, Energising B5 Gel Cleanser, Stillness Body Oil and Vitality Body.

With recent research suggesting that 53% of UK adults* are not confident in identifying a skincare product derived from animals, we are hopeful that the sight of The Vegan Trademark on our product pages will help provide you with confidence in your purchasing decision and have tried to answer any questions you may have regarding the process below.

WHAT IS VEGANISM?

The Vegan Society defines veganism is a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude – as far as is possible and practicable – all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of animals, humans and the environment. In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals.”

WHAT IS THE VEGAN TRADEMARK?

The Vegan Trademark is the authentic international vegan standard and is managed by The Vegan Society; the charity that created the word 'vegan' back in 1944. Its dedicated and experienced vegan team check each product application against specific criteria, working with manufacturers and suppliers across a range of fields to ensure that each certified product meets the highest vegan standards. The Vegan Trademark is renewed on a yearly basis to ensure information is kept up to date on all certified products.

WHAT IS THE CERTIFICATION PROCESS?

The Vegan Society’s team of experts works closely with manufacturers and suppliers across various industries to ensure that each product meets the highest vegan standards. The application process requires documentation, such as technical datasheets, to demonstrate compliance with these standards. This rigorous approach ensures that the Vegan Trademark remains a symbol of trust and integrity.

WHAT WILDSMITH PRODUCTS ARE VEGAN CERTIFIED?

Certification is an on-going process, we currently hold certification for the following Wildsmith products: Hand and Body Wash, Hand and Body Lotion, Active Super Eye Serum, Active Super Oil, Dual Action Exfoliating Treatment, Time Release Pre-Serum-Drops, Energising B5 Gel Cleanser, Stillness Body Oil and Vitality Body Oil.

As additional products achieve certification, we will keep this page updated. The Vegan Trademark is also placed on the product page for all certified products.

WHY DO WE NEED A VEGAN TRADEMARK?

There is not currently an industry standard products are required to meet when labelled ‘vegan’ - the Vegan Trademark is the world’s first vegan product labelling scheme of its kind. And is intended to provide peace of mind that certified products are free of animal-based ingredients, and have not been tested on animals by the company or on its behalf
