What Double Cleansing Does for your skin

We’ve long extolled the virtues of double cleansing for skin, but with the launch of our new Double Cleanse Duo, it felt like a pertinent time to revisit the subject.

Skin’s needs are constantly changing due to any number of factors. The season, hormones, the foods we consume, and stress all play their part. And simple though it may seem, the pivotal role that cleansing plays in our routines is often overlooked.

Cleansing performs two important functions. The first and most obvious being to emulsify and remove make-up, oil build-up, debris and pollution particles from the surface of the skin. For this, Active Repair Nourishing Cleansing Balm is ideal. With a luxurious blend of plant oils and butters it delivers a deep cleanse while also respecting the skin’s delicate moisture barrier. It’s the kind of cleanser you might reach for at the end of a long day, with a rich texture and therapeutic botanical scent that lends itself to taking your time.

The second function of cleansing is less well know, and that’s to prepare skin adequately to receive whatever nutrients and actives come next in your routine. No matter how innovative the formula of your facial serum, mask or moisturiser, applied to skin that hasn’t been effectively cleansed it just won’t be as effective. This is where it pays to follow your oil-based cleanser with a water-based formula to remove every last trace. In the case of our lightweight Energising B5 Gel Cleanser you’ll also benefit from antioxidant protection derived from English mulberry, rich in vitamins C and B5, to defend against oxidative stress.

Of course, there are times when double cleansing just won’t be an option, or time doesn’t allow. In which case choose your cleanser accordingly – oil or water based –depending on your skin’s needs in the moment.
