Inspired by the living landscape of the Heckfield Estate, where William Wildsmith’s legacy of tree planting endures, the soundscape is composed using biosonification, a process that translates the electrical signals of trees, soil, and plant life into sound. These organic sonic elements are harmonised with binaural beats and therapeutic frequencies, guiding the listener through a profound sensory journey of renewal.

A living legacy
Heckfield's Arboretum
The Arboretum on the Heckfield Estate is a testament to nature’s quiet strength, embodying the vision of Wildsmith’s namesake 19th century botanist William Wildsmith, who planted with care and intention and whose legacy continues with the only biodynamic nursery in the UK. It is from this dynamic landscape that ‘Treescape’ emerges—a unique auditory experience by award-winning sound artist Justin Wiggan, translating the silent wisdom of trees into a deeply restorative sonic journey.
TREESCAPE
Created with precision and intention
The Wildsmith Treescape is more than a composition—it is a living sonic journey that mirrors the rhythms of nature. Whether experienced in a Wildsmith spa treatment, through mindful listening, or during moments of reflection, this soundscape invites the listener to reconnect with the intelligence of trees and the wisdom of the forest, fostering a profound sense of well-being and restoration.
‘Treescape’ is composed using biosonification—a technique that translates the electrical impulses of trees, soil, and plant life into sound. This living symphony is then interwoven with binaural beats and therapeutic Solfegio Frequencies, designed to guide the listener through a meditative experience of renewal and release.
Rooted in ancient musical traditions, Solfeggio frequencies are believed to restore harmony within the body. Used in 9th-century Gregorian chants and rediscovered by Dr. Joseph Puleo in the 1970s, these tones resonate with nature’s rhythms. Emerging research links them to reduced stress, deep relaxation, and emotional release—inviting a renewed connection between sound, self, and the living world.
The soundscape unfolds in distinct movements, each mirroring a journey through the forest.

This soundscape starts as transformative resonance of the 963Hz frequency, designed to evoke a profound sense of alignment with the deeper meaning of life and guide the listener into a state of Oneness.
Enhancing this foundation is the biosonification of both clouds and wind over the Heckfield Estate— natural data translated into sound, creating an organic, evolving texture that bridges the celestial with the earthly. These atmospheric elements offer a living presence within the composition, grounding the listener in the rhythm of nature while maintaining an expansive, transcendent tone.
The soundscape begins as a gentle decompression chamber, allowing the listener to detach from the noise and tension of daily life. The interplay of frequencies and biosonified elements provides a space of stillness and recalibration. Bells tuned to 963Hz are intricately woven into this opening phase, serving as sonic beacons that guide the listener inward. Their pure, resonant tones harmonize with the binaural pulses and the living breath of the Heckfield sky, inviting the individual into a sacred space of deep inner peace, emotional reset, and readiness for transformation.
The journey begins high in the forest canopy, where the biosonification of leaves, branches, and vascular systems creates a delicate yet expansive sonic texture. The whispers of sap rising through trunks, the electro-signals of leaves absorbing sunlight, and the subtle hum of trees communicating weave together in an intricate soundscape.
Overlaying these natural sounds are 528 Hz, known for DNA repair and emotional healing, and 417 Hz, which facilitates change and the clearing of negative energy. The result is a soundscape that encourages emotional transformation, gently dissolving tension and promoting a sense of openness and renewal—like sunlight filtering through leaves, warming the mind and body.
Moving deeper into the soundscape, the trees release their breath into the wind, captured through the biosonification of falling leaves, swaying branches, and shifting air currents. This movement is layered with the 396 Hz frequency, which is known to dissolve subconscious fear and guilt.
The rhythmic pulses of the forest, resembling slow exhalations, create a sonic experience that encourages letting go. The hidden electro-signals of the trees offer a sense of emotional liberation, inviting the listener to shed burdens as if they were leaves drifting free in the wind.
A shift downward into the earth beneath the forest floor introduces the biosonification of roots, mycelium networks, and microbial life. The deep, rich tones of the soil’s hidden symphony are combined with 174 Hz, a frequency known for relieving physical and emotional pain.
The hushed movement of underground water, the whispers of root systems communicating, and the resonance of minerals shifting create a soundscape that envelops the listener in comfort and grounding energy. This section of the journey promotes stress reduction, relaxation, and a sense of safety, as if sinking into the earth’s embrace.
Towards the final movement, the biosonification of trees, soil, and water merges with 432 Hz, a frequency resonating with nature’s rhythm. This harmonic soundscape evokes balance and clarity, like walking through a sunlit forest in sync with the earth’s pulse. As it fades, the listener is left restored, deeply connected to self and the living world.
As final tones of the 639Hz frequency resonate, the listener is invited into stillness - a gentle space of closure, connection, and peace. This final movement encourages reflection, emotional resolution, and the quiet integration of healing. It’s not an end, but a space of letting go, in order to return: grounded, open, and whole. The journey concludes with the playful melodies of the Damascus Rose, a final celebration of renewal - soft, luminous, and deeply attuned to the rhythm of inner harmony.
