Frequently Asked Questions

What cleanser is good for oily skin?

A good cleanser for oily skin is one that effectively removes dirt without stripping the skin of essential oils. Many products designed for oily skin are drying, which can cause skin to produce excess oil to counteract this, so using a hydrating cleanser is important. Our Active Repair Nourishing Cleansing Balm is a gentle, yet powerful, balm cleanser which cuts through dirt, make-up and excess sebum. It is rich in nutrients to protect the skin and support the skin barrier, locking in moisture to leave skin feeling clean, hydrated and supple.

What does a cleanser do for your skin?

A cleanser dissolves daily dirt and impurities, excess oil, sweat, make-up and other pollutants from the skin on your face to help unclog pores and prevent skin conditions such as acne. It gently clears the skin to prepare it for the next step of your skincare routine. Our Active Repair Nourishing Cleansing Balm combines a blend of plant-based oils with rich butters to remove impurities from the skin, lock in moisture and provide essential nourishment.

Are cream cleansers good for dry skin?

Cream cleansers are a good choice for dry skin as they are very gentle and moisturise the skin. Oil-based cleansers, such as our Active Repair Nourishing Cleansing Balm are also a good option for those with dry skin as they provide the skin with essential vitamins and nutrients, and the fatty acids in the skin help to lock in moisture to keep skin hydrated.

How to chose a cleanser for oily skin?

For oily skin, look for a cleanser that can lift away excess oil, and clear any make-up, bacteria and debris that oil can trap in your pores. Ingredients often used in products for oily skin, such as salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide, can actually dry out the skin, prompting it to produce even more oil in response. Although it may seem counter-intuitive, oil-based cleansers such as our Active Repair Nourishing Cleansing Balm are great for oily skin as they dissolve excess sebum and make-up that clog pores. They provide hydration and nutrients to support the skin and balance oil production.

What is a good facial cleanser for sensitive skin?

A gentle facial cleanser is best for those with sensitive skin. You should avoid drying ingredients such as sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and salicylic acid as these can dry out skin and cause irritation. Oil-based cleansers are gentler on the skin than their water-based counterparts. They do not foam, but effectively dissolve make-up and other impurities on the skin. They leave the natural oil layer on top of the skin, so for sensitive skin there is minimal irritation. We recommend our Active Repair Nourishing Cleansing Balm as it comforts the skin, locks in moisture and is rich in nutrients.
